Prepurchase exam - Dierenkliniek Hattem-Wapenveld

Prepurchase exam

Equine Clinic Wapenveld has a well-known reputation in performing international prepurchase exams. Clients from the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Russia, Australia and Asia regularly use our services and knowledge on international horse trade.

In our well equipped clinic owners and buyers can attend the examination which is performed by a certified equine prepurchase vet acknowledged by the Royal Dutch Veterinary College and member of the AAEP. The prepurchase exam consists of four parts:

  • Clinical examination at rest in which the body conformation, musculoskeletal system, skin, eyes, oral cavity, digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular system will be examined thoroughly.

  • Orthopedic examination of the horse in walk and trot on a hard surface, flexion tests, lunging in walk, trot and canter on hard and soft surface and, if requested, under tack. After work the cardiovascular and respiratory system will be re-evaluated for performance related abnormalities

  • Imaging of a set of standardized x-rays and of structures that are suspected for abnormalities based on the clinical and orthopedic exam (e.g. x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy). The set of x-rays will be taken as requested by the buyer and/or their veterinarian (e.g. additional x-rays of the limbs, skull, neck and/or back). The obtained images can be sent to your veterinarian by e-mail and/or courier.

  • Sampling of blood and or swabs for laboratory testing. From every horse examined blood samples are collected and stored for eventual testing on prohibited substances.
